Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information ManyQuills ("we," "us," "our") — a sole proprietorship operated by Tyler Williams — collects when you use manyquills.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions any time: [email protected].

Information we collect

• Account information — the email address, username, and display name you give us, plus a securely hashed version of your password (we never store your password in plain text).
• Sign-in with Google — if you choose "Sign in with Google," Google tells us your Google account identifier, your email address, whether Google has verified it, and the name on your Google account. We use it to create or match your ManyQuills account. We never see your Google password.
• Payment information — when you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We receive a customer and subscription identifier and your subscription status; we do not receive or store your full card number.
• Usage information — basic records of your activity on the Service, such as which stories you follow and your reading access, so we can provide and improve the Service.
• Comments and votes — comments you post are stored with your account and shown publicly next to your display name. If you take part in a community story vote, we store which story you voted for, tied to your account (one vote per account, and it can't be changed). The running tally may be shown publicly, but individual readers' votes are never published.
• Reading activity — when you open a chapter we record a read: the story, a timestamp, and your account id if you're signed in (nothing identifying if you aren't). It powers the "views today" figure and the most-read ordering on the home page. We don't store your IP address or device details in this counter.
• Browser notifications — if you turn on the 🔔 notifications, your browser gives us a subscription: a notification endpoint URL at your browser vendor's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or similar) plus two keys that let us encrypt the message. We store these with your account and use them only to send new-chapter and new-story alerts for what you follow. Turning notifications off in your browser or from the 🔔 button deletes the subscription.
• Messages you send us — if you use our contact form, we receive your name (if given), email, and message so we can reply.
• Cookies & advertising technologies — we use a session cookie to keep you signed in. On some pages — chiefly our ad-campaign landing pages — we also use the Reddit advertising pixel to measure how our advertising performs, for example to understand when a visit from a Reddit ad leads to a sign-up or subscription. This pixel may set cookies and send limited event data (such as page visits, sign-ups, and purchases) to Reddit. You can limit this through your browser settings, an ad-blocker, or Reddit's own ad-preference controls.
• Our own site analytics — separately from the Reddit pixel, we keep a small first-party log of funnel events (landing-page views, sign-ups, subscriptions, cancellations) with a timestamp, your account id where you have one, and the plan or referring source. We use it to understand whether our advertising works. It isn't shared with anyone.

How we use your information

• To create and run your account and deliver the stories, audiobooks, and illustrated editions you subscribe to;
• To process subscriptions, renewals, and cancellations through Stripe;
• To send you necessary transactional email — such as email verification, password resets, and billing notices — via our email provider, Resend;
• To show your comments and tally community votes;
• To send the browser notifications you've asked for;
• To respond to your messages and support requests;
• To measure how our advertising performs — for example, understanding when a visit from an ad leads to a sign-up — using the Reddit advertising pixel and Reddit's conversion measurement;
• To keep the Service secure and to improve it.

How your information is shared

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only with the service providers we rely on to run ManyQuills, and only as needed:

• Stripe — payment processing (Stripe Privacy Policy);
• Resend — sending transactional email (Resend Privacy Policy);
• Google — "Sign in with Google" authentication, and the push service for Chrome/Android browsers (Google Privacy Policy);
• Cloudflare — serving and protecting manyquills.com; traffic passes through Cloudflare's network, and our email is routed by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Privacy Policy);
• Reddit — advertising and conversion measurement, so we can understand which ads bring readers to ManyQuills (Reddit Privacy Policy).

Some privacy laws (such as the CCPA) treat sharing data with an advertising partner like Reddit for measurement as a "sale" or "share." You can opt out at any time by using an ad-blocker, your browser's cookie controls, or Reddit's ad-preference settings, or by emailing us at [email protected].

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of ManyQuills, our users, or others.

Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data (see below).

Your choices and rights

• You can view and update your account details from your account settings.
• You can cancel your subscription at any time from "Manage billing."
• You can turn browser notifications off at any time from the 🔔 button or in your browser settings.
• Comments you've posted can be deleted by you from the page they're on. Ask us at [email protected] if you want help removing them all.
• You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor those rights where they apply.

Children's privacy

ManyQuills is not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including password hashing, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and trusted payment and email providers — to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above when we do, and notify you of material changes where appropriate.
